Why transactional email matters

Transactional email confirms critical moments in your product: account creation, password changes, successful payments, and access to important downloads. Unlike campaigns, these messages are part of the user flow.

1. Choose an API-first provider

Add your provider credentials to the environment, then keep the API key server-side only. Mailgun, Resend, and Postmark all work well with Next.js route handlers.

2. Use one template contract

Give every template the same input shape: user name, action URL, product name, support email, and expiration. This keeps welcome emails, receipts, and alerts consistent as your product grows.

3. Send from server actions

Trigger email only after the database write succeeds. Queue retries for temporary failures, log provider message IDs, and never expose delivery internals to the browser.
